Advent Day 2…. The Hobbit

The Hobbit – Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely traveling any farther than his pantry or cellar. But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard Gandalf and a company of dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day to whisk him away on an adventure. They have launched a plot to raid the treasure hoard guarded by Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon.

Bilbo reluctantly joins their quest, unaware that on his journey to the Lonely Mountain he will encounter both a magic ring and a frightening creature known as Gollum.

This absolute classic had to be top of my list.

I loved this story growing up and I remember my mum always suggesting it when Id ask her what book I should read. In fact I still own her original copy, one of my dearest items. I’m not massively sentimental about things, but there are some books that just mean so much. The hobbit sparked my love of adventure stories and fantasy!

The colours are inspired by the classic cover I remember as a child. Gorgeous soft muted tones of browns with hints of warm yellows and patches of sky grey blue. This earthy autumnal colourway is just stunning!! I love how beautifully it works with the first colourway of the advent, if you aren’t making the CAL then this would be a stunning set for socks!

Any guesses what story will be joining the hobbit on our shelf tomorrow?!

Advent Day 1…. Libraryarn

Now I know the advent was inspired by books but we just had to have a bookshelf for them to all live on and this colourway has been inspired by the most stunning set of bookshelves I’ve ever seen.

This is the Stiftsbibliothek Admont in Austria and the colours were so beautiful I knew they had to play centre stage for day 1!

ITS DAY 1!!! *happy dance*

The beautiful pale blues and peach with hints of terracotta on this multitoned ivory base is just exquisite and makes the most stunning full 100g skein. Speckles add to the overall look of the library, almost like its speckled with books.

Now you all know the huge surprise that we had in store and you have hopefully all received your first instalment of the crochet along via email this morning! Let me know if you are joining the #LibraryarnAdventCAL or if you have other plans for your advent!!

So what book do you think we will be placing on our shelf tomorrow?! So excited!

Advent Day 3…. The Kite Runner

1970s Afghanistan: Twelve-year-old Amir is desperate to win the local kite-fighting tournament and his loyal friend Hassan promises to help him. But neither of the boys can foresee what would happen to Hassan that afternoon, an event that is to shatter their lives. After the Russians invade and the family is forced to flee to America, Amir realises that one day he must return to an Afghanistan under Taliban rule to find the one thing that his new world cannot grant him: redemption.

I looooved this book so much, I have a number of the authors books now on my to be read list, however I thing I was late to this party! It’s definitely one to add to your list if you haven’t read it, even if its not your normal cup of tea!

The yarn was inspired by the cover with all of the gorgeous soft tones of blue and blue green of the sky and splashes of browns and khaki with hints of other rainbow colours mixed in. These colours were pulled from the boy on the covers top and add so much interest to the yarn. A firm favourite of mine in this advent.

Scroll all the way down for the day 3’s pattern spoiler and an example of how the yarn works up!

I’m so excited to share tomorrow’s book and yarn to add to our shelf! It’s honestly the most stunning yarn I’ve ever dyed… see you then!

Advent Day 4…. I Capture the Castle

Through six turbulent months of 1934, 17-year-old Cassandra Mortmain keeps a journal, filling three notebooks with sharply funny yet poignant entries about her home, a ruined Suffolk castle, and her eccentric and penniless family. By the time the last diary shuts, there have been great changes in the Mortmain household, not the least of which is that Cassandra is deeply, hopelessly, in love.

So I didn’t think that I would love this book, but I absolutely fell in love with the characters and the story. I was so invested it had to be included in the advent. I have the privilege of being part of a small book group with girls I now call my close friends (after 7 years… you cant deny it) and this was a book that blew me away when we read it.

Even more than that, I adore the cover! The colours in the cover just screamed out to be a colourway. The pastel colours are gorgeous and work together so well. Beautiful mint with peach and lavender then speckled with deep lilac and periwinkle. Absolute perfection.

I mean c’mon, its lush isn’t it.
