Advent Day 24…. The Night Circus

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway—a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.

True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.

We are going out with a bang, as you know I love a black and colour on white combo… This one is just up there in my favourites!!

As it this book…

the book was one that when I was in a reading slump it dragged me out and got me hooked on books again. Its a book literally about transporting you into a magical place filled with excitement and wonder. Which, coincidently is what I feel books do for me. So this had to be a main colourway and grace a 100g skein.

Scroll all the way down for the day 24 pattern spoiler! Although… Its the same as day 1 in reverse. I have also been told by Claire that you could use the first colour as day 1 for this part and save today’s for another project! Which, is what I am going to do!

And that is a wrap! Thank you so much for joining me on the literary and yarn tour. I have loved every minute of this years advent! If you have enjoyed it maybe you’d consider following me over on the socials where you can keep an eye out for next years Advent announcement coming in JAN!

Love to you all!! Merry Christmas!!!!!!

Advent Day 23…. Dissolution

Henry VIII has ordered the dissolution of the monasteries and England is full of informers. At the monastery of Scarnsea, events have spiralled out of control with the murder of Commissioner Robin Singleton. Matthew Shardlake, a lawyer, and his assistant are sent to investigate.

Dissolution is another book I read on the way to and from London when I lived there many years ago and I used to get the train back to Cardiff to visit the fam! I picked it up in WHSmith in Cardiff station because I liked the sprayed edges…however, the book is actually brilliant. I never knew I would like this kind of book so much… its like a ye old who dun it. hah!

Now with a back story like that this book and cover had to be included in this advent and I adored making this colourway. The deep navy variegated tomes with dark hints of purple against striking yellows, all whilst attempting to not let the colours mix in the pan creating green. I am so pleased with how they turned out!

TOMORROW is Christmas eve and our last colourway! Don’t panic though, because its a big one!!!

Advent Day 22…. The Chronicles of Narnia

The Chronicles of Narnia have transcended the fantasy genre to become part of the canon of classic literature. Each of the seven books is a masterpiece, drawing the reader into a land where magic meets reality, and the result is a fictional world whose scope has fascinated generations.

These books shaped my love of fiction and fantasy when I was growing up. I had a massive book, not quite as pretty as this one, that had them all in and I adored it growing up! The books were full of magic and wonder and no wonder I am still obsessed with this genre!

The cover I chose to represent the full chronicles is gorgeous and I had to do it justice. Not only was the deep midnight blue and purples involved but the subtle colours in the middle image of Lucy walking with Mr. Tumnus – including the peach and red tones for him and the blue for her. *chefs kiss*

Advent Day 21…. The Prisoner of Azkaban

Harry Potter, along with his best friends, Ron and Hermione, is about to start his third year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry can’t wait to get back to school after the summer holidays. (Who wouldn’t if they lived with the horrible Dursleys?) But when Harry gets to Hogwarts, the atmosphere is tense. There’s an escaped mass murderer on the loose, and the sinister prison guards of Azkaban have been called in to guard the school…

WELL… I mean would it be a book shelf without it?! I know there has been some controversy with this author but the story is so magical and has so much more meaning to it for so many that I couldn’t ignore it. I grew up with this series, starting the first book when I was 8 (my eldests age) and I finished the series after queuing at midnight to pick it up in my late teens. Not only that but I now have the absolute pleasure of witnessing my boys enjoying it now and I am reliving the magic through their eyes. (I cried when I read the first chapter to my eldest… I am nothing but a potter head)

I chose this beautiful cover of my favourite HP book to inspire a colourway and I am so pleased with the yarn!

Deep and intense shades of purple and plum, bright pops of watermelon and coral pink with hints of grey and white. Perfection.

Advent Day 20…. Where the Crawdads Sing

For years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet fishing village. Kya Clark is barefoot and wild; unfit for polite society. So in late 1969, when the popular Chase Andrews is found dead, locals immediately suspect her.

But Kya is not what they say. A born naturalist with just one day of school, she takes life’s lessons from the land, learning the real ways of the world from the dishonest signals of fireflies. But while she has the skills to live in solitude forever, the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. Drawn to two young men from town, who are each intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new and startling world—until the unthinkable happens.

This was big hitter this year for me and so it had to be included, not only for the amazing cover but also for the brilliant story. I haven’t seen the film yet… I may treat myself to a movie night tonight as mike is out for his Christmas do… Ill be crocheting this beauty too of course!

I really hope most of you guessed this one as its a pretty unique mix of colours! Beautiful ivory throught to coral and baby pink with some lilac then into the beautiful sea green blues… with the essential pop of lime green! Its just scrumptious!
